Civil War–dated partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, dated December 17th, 1861. As the Civil War continues through its first winter, President Lincoln appoints Wentworth S. Simmons to the rank of Third Lieutenant in the Revenue Services of the U.S.. Boldly signed at the conclusion by Lincoln and countersigned by Secretary of the Treasury, Salmon P. Chase. In fine condition, with intersecting storage folds, remaining bright and clean with slight fading to the inks.
