Charles Manson wanted to be as famous as the Beatles. And while his attempts to achieve legendary status through his music failed utterly, in the end, his fame in many ways accomplished that goal. But instead of being famous for great music as the Beatles are and were, Manson has become a byword for a crazed, cult like figure who directed his followers to perform acts of inhumanity so terrible that they exceeded anything we had seen before in the history of 20th century crime. The vicious murders that were carried out in 1969 by the “family” of Charles Manson gripped the Los Angeles area in fear because they were so brutal and because they were so senseless.
A document that symbolically ended that reign of terror and started the process to send one of the world's most notorious figures to justice (and jail for the rest of his life), offered here is the original booking/fingerprint sheet that was drafted once Manson was formally accused for orchestrating the Tate-LaBianca murders. While the murders took place in August of 1969, it took several months for detectives to determine what exactly happened and who was responsible. Thus, in December of 1969, Charles Manson and his "family" were formally arrested, booked and charged with the murders. Dates December 9, 1969, this double sided document features typewritten particulars of Manson on the front and his fingerprints on the back. The booking lists Manson's physical details along with his hometown (Cincinnati, spelled incorrectly), his address (Transient), his occupation (Musician), but most notably ... the fact he was arrested for robbery and homicide and was facing 7 counts of murder. Ironically, the officer who fingerprinted him is listed with the last name Tate.
The document exhibits some moderate handling wear as shown but along the edges but is otherwise fine. A unique piece of history which served as the first important step in bringing one of America's most notorious figures to justice!
