This letter, dated August 14, 1811, was written to Mr. Oliver Wolcott, Esq. from St. Petersburg, while John Quincy Adams was serving as U.S. Minister to Russia as appointed by President James Madison. During his time in office, he proved to be a valuable asset in advancing the interests of the United States abroad, as shown in this letter. Previously Secretary of the Treasury to George Washington and John Adams, Oliver Wolcott was at the time running a private business in New York City. The letter, written entirely in Quincy Adams' hand, appears to be a response to a favor requested by Wolcott of Adams in expediting the delivery of goods from several vessels on their way to Russia - a favor which Adams was glad to accommodate. Signed at the conclusion of the nearly two page handwritten letter, "John Quincy Adams". Addressed on the reverse of the page, also in Adams' hand, the letter is in fine condition with light rippling and staining, and slight paper loss from being separated from a seal on one side. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
