Autograph Letter Signed, “Rutherford B. Hayes" one single-sided page, 5.5” x 8.5,” February 11, 1888, from Fremont, OH. Hayes writes to “J. L. Clapp,” in part: “I am not able to learn as to the Regiment, or the death of young Clark. After interviewing Maj. Stahl, I wrote to Capt. Luckley…The boy is remembered here as a young fellow before the War, but not afterwards. He must have joined some other Regt…” In very good to fine condition, with a few spots of foxing to edges and tear to lower left mailing fold, none of which affect the overall presentable handwriting and signature.
