Autograph Letter Signed, “M. Van Buren” one page both sides, 5” x 7.75,” July 11, 1838. Van Buren pens a letter of introduction to Mr. Poinsett, in full: “The bearer of this Mr. Luce a son of Dr Luce of the War Department has asked me to introduce him to you. Mr. Luce belongs to a highly respectable family in N York, & is I believe a young gentleman of much personal worth.” In fine condition, with expected mailing folds. Accompanied by a typed transcription of the letter. Serving as Van Buren’s Secretary of War, Poinsett was given to the Christmas flower Poinsettia.
