Partly-printed vellum document, 16” x 10.75,” signed as President, “James Monroe,” December 4, 1819. A military appointment for, “William G. McNeill,” who is here assigned, “a first Lieutenant in the Corps of Artillery.” Countersigned at the conclusion by Secretary of War John C. Calhoun. In very good condition, with some overall document wear from age, including wrinkling, light soiling, and folds; writing on document is rather light, though Monroe’s signature itself is bolder. Seal attached at lower left. A much lesser-seen type of document as opposed to the rather plentiful land grants.
