Handwritten letter on one page of 6.75” x 9.5” paper, dated July 20, 1782 and signed at the conclusion in black ink by John Trumbull. Correspondence to Mr. Ebenezer Barnard Jnr. reads, in part: “I have received your’s of the 13th day—the receipt you mention must be from some one of the contractors Oliver Phelps Esq…I presume Mr. Morris’s notes will be received as good as Cash they answer all the purposes of money...” In fine condition. Accompanied by a Beckett/BAS Guaranteed LOA. An American artist of the early independence period, Trumbull has been referred to as the “Painter of the Revolution.”
