As a hitter, no one could compare to Ted Williams in his prime. When the Splendid Splinter finally retired after two decades in the game, he became the manager of the Washington Senators. Even though he took the Manager of the Year Award in 1969, Williams was often frustrated with the abilities of mere mortal players and quit after the 1971 season. Free from the obligations of a big league manager, Ted reverted to what he knew best - hitting, of course - and became the Red Sox's roving batting instructor. As such, Williams needed a fresh supply of lumber with which to demonstrate his technique. Enter this 1973-1975 manufactured Ted Williams model bat. The Hillerich & Bradsby model W183 bat shows excellent use and is un-cracked. Several ball marks and stitch impressions can be seen and several small nicks on the barrel appear to be cleat marks. A great bat from Ted's post-playing days when he was passing on his knowledge to a new generation of hitters. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA game used bat expert John Taube.
