Henry Clay was a distinguished statesman, US senator, secretary of state, speaker of the house, and three-time presidential candidate (1777–1852) who became known as the ‘Great Compromiser’ for his support of the Union prior to the Civil War. Offered here is a signed letter, dated January 26 1817, handwritten by Henry Clay in bold black steel tip pen, in regards to the schooling of his sons, among other things. Signed at the conclusion "H. Clay". Overall in fine condition, the letter has been framed with a photograph to the overall size of 13.25" x 18". In overall fine condition with some handling wear to the frame, separation at the top of the letter, and a tear to the bottom right near Clay's autograph.
