Scarce partly-printed one page 15.25" x 11.75" French appointment document, signed “Bonaparte,” January 26, 1803. Untranslated document in which Napoleon appoints a consul to Baltimore in the United States. Signed at the conclusion “Bonaparte,” and countersigned by Tallyrand and Maret. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered light toning, creasing, and soiling, and light wear along bottom edge. The white seal is lightly toned, but crisp and intact. Item originates from the collection of Tristam Coffin of Nantucket, and was originally sold in 1927 by The Anderson Galleries of New York. Also accompanied by two pages of biographical clippings and a 1927 letter presenting the item to Edgar Seeler.
Easily one of the strongest Napoleon documents to surface in both document & signature condition. Authenticated by PSA/DNA with a full letter of authenticity.
