Martin Van Buren, nicknamed "Old Kinderhook", was one of the founders of the Democratic Party, Secretary of State and Vice President during the Jackson administration, and the eighth President of the United States. In 1828, Van Buren was elected Governor of New York, but that was short-lived, as President Jackson soon appointed him Secretary of State. Offered here is a 8" x 7.5" handwritten letter, dated April 25, 1828, written by Van Buren during his time as governor. Van Buren writes a Mr. W.H. Cogg in reference to writing a letter for the Esquirer publication. The letter exhibits moderate handling wear and toning, with vertical and horizontal creases and some evidence of repairs having been made. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
