Mel Ott, the New York Giants' small but mighty power hitter, hand wrote this November 13, 1958 letter in response to an autograph request. Reads, in part, "I will be very happy to autograph your ball. If you send it to my address I will sign and return it to you." Signed at the conclusion "Mel Ott", all executed in black ballpoint pen on Hotel Kerns in Lansing, MI letterhead.

On the day after this letter was executed, Ott was involved in a car accident in Mississippi while en route back to New Orleans. He would spend the next week in a hospital until his passing on November 21st. Thus, it is very possible that this was final letter ever written - and potentially even the final item to be signed - by the baseball icon!

This also makes one wonder if the correspondent in question was ever able to fulfill his hopes of getting his baseball autographed - likely not, unfortunately. In fine condition, the letter has been framed along with an 8" x 10" photograph of Ott and is ready for immediate display. Authenticated by PSA/DNA with a full Letter of Authenticity.
