A hero of the Mexican-American War, Zachary Taylor would parlay his success into a seat as the 12th President of the United States. Only serving for one year, signed items in any format are few and far Offered here is a 14.5" x 9.75" document dated April 23, 1849, appointing William B. Smith to the Collector of Customs, signed by Zachary Taylor and counter-signed by Secretary of the Treasury William M. Meredith. The document exhibits moderate staining, it appears due to moisture damage. There is one vertical and two horizontal creases. Seal remains intact. Framed and matted along with a photograph of Taylor to an overall size of 27" x 15". Complete documents from Taylor are rare! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
