While this historic paperwork does not relate to Clemente's Hall of Fame career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, a strong argument could be made that it remains equal in terms of desirability to serious collectors of the baseball martyr. Despite his great fame in the United States, Clemente remained ever faithful to his native land, even going so far as to ensure that each of his three children would be born on Puerto Rican soil. This "Contrato del Jugador" with "Los Nuevos Senadores, Inc." bears witness not only to his devotion to his homeland, but also to his dedication to the game that kept him in world class form during the Major Leagues' off-season.

It certainly wasn't for the money alone that the nation's greatest ballplayer suited up for Los Senadores--the pay was a paltry $1,000 per month, with $300 per month for expenses. A solid 9/10 blue ink signature from Clemente signifies acceptance of the terms. The contract has survived the better part of a half century of existence surprisingly well, with no condition issues of note save the original filing punch holes at upper edge. With tropical climates being particularly unfriendly to vintage paper products, the fine condition of this piece makes it all the more remarkable. A special opportunity for one member of Clemente's legions of fans. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
