All three pitchers from the inaugural class of the Baseball Hall of Fame share space on this first day cover issued at Cooperstown on that historic day in June of 1939. Walter Johnson, G.C. Alexander and Cy Young each rate 8/10 or better in black fountain pen ink. Some time later, the collector met up with New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle, acquiring an autograph rating 9/10 , to conclude the roster of signers (DiMaggio has been deemed "secretarial"). A couple scattered stains remain clear of the signatures and do little to distract the eye. The first "pitchers only" FDC we've encountered from the Cooperstown inaugural, discounting the later arrivals. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
