An extremely rare autograph from naturalist, biologist, and the father of the theory of evolution, Charles Darwin - best known for his essay "On the Origin of Species" and his theory of evolution by natural selection. Offered here is a 7" x 5" note from Darwin, in pencil, to the booksellers Williams and Norgate requesting copies of several books. Reads, in full, "[Comparative Embryology & F.M. Balfour](Macmillan Co.), Bastian [The Brain as a Organ of Mind by Dr. Bastian (Kegan Paul & Co.)], When the translation of the Semper's book on Biology in the International Series comes out, please send it." All of these books were published in 1880, two years before Darwin's death. Balfour, the first author listed, became known as Darwin's successor. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, a few pinholes, & surface impressions. A very rare offering featuring requests for research materail from one of the most accredited scientist in history!
