George Washington's contribution to the foundation of the United States of America could not be overstated. Something else that can't be overstated is the rarity and investment potential of his autograph. With virtually everything bearing his penmanship being absorbed by museums and institutions, Washington's signature has been elevated to the mythical status that it so properly deserves. With that said, hand written & signed material in any form is not only rare, but considered historical by nature with every known item documented by Mount Vernon with The George Washington's Papers Project. Offered here is a highly desirable 4" x 6.5" hand written letter from George Washington to Alexander Spotswood in May 1786. Reads in full, "My lame horse; and for the lent of the one which Austin rid up. Mr Hunter is so obliging as to take him down, to you, and will bring mine up, if he is fit to move. If not, I will wait until you may write me, as I had rather send him than have him traveled as quick as he must do to accompany the Stage. Mrs Washington and the Family here join me in every good wish for yourself, Mrs. Spotswood and the rest of the family. With great estm & regard I am Dr. Sir Yr Most Obedt & Affece Go Washington." Overall in fine condition, the note is mounted to backing due to intersecting folds, including to the autograph, not detracting from the bold & crisp look of the overall letter. Easily one of the strongest examples you will find & certainly the finest we have ever offered! Authenticated & encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
