The front tail of the jersey features a "Russell Athletic" manufacturer's tag with size 42 as well as the 1998 year swatch. There are remnants of a Steiner Sports game used hologram on the Russell tag. The jersey actually measures to a size 44 and exhibits quality overall evidence of game use. Rare opportunity to own an early career Mariano Rivera game used jersey from the prime of his Hall of Fame career. Rivera had 36 saves and a 1.91 ERA in 1998, his 4th season in the big leagues and 2nd season as a closer with the Yankees after setting up John Wetteland for 2 years.

Miedema concludes: "This is to verify, in my opinion, the game used status of the item cited above as submitted...The jersey is made by Russell, and is tagged as a size 42, although the measurements of the size indicate it to be a size 44, which is in line with Rivera's early career gamers. The Russell label and a strip tag denoting 1998 as the year are located in the front outer left tail. A hologram on the Russell label, which based on the size of the imprint and the fact that this is not a signed jersey gives the indication that this was an early Steiner hologram.
