Casey Stengel would have a long triumphant career in the Major Leagues as both a player & manager spanning from 1912-1965. Stacking up eight World Series Championships along the way, while being the only man to ever wear all four New York Major League club uniforms, Casey was a devoted New Yorker to say the least. As fond as Stengel was for the five boroughs of New York City, he was the polar opposite for giving out autographs. Reluctant to sign, Stengel is often seen on vintage balls either in stamped format or as a clubhouse signature. For this reason, single signed vintage baseballs such as this Worth Official League sphere remain in high demand, bearing the legendary New Yorker's signature on the sweet spot in blue ballpoint pen with the fitting and incredibly rare inscription "NY Mets". Stengel famously managed the Mets as baseball's first expansion team, founded in 1962 to replace New York's departed Dodgers and Giants. He promoted the team tirelessly before retiring in 1965 (although he remained a fixture at New York baseball events for the rest of his life). This is a rare signed ball from Stengel with an even more rare inscription, commemorating the birth of one of baseball's future powerhouse teams. In very good condition, the ball remains mostly creamy with very light handling wear and a bold blue autograph and inscription! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
