Although often overshadowed by his more dominant brother Fidel's legacy, Raul Castro was often operating just off-stage in the Cuban Revolution, fighting alongside Fidel to overthrow Cuba's government, negotiating directly with Soviet leaders, and running the country's armed forces for five decades before becoming president. It was Raul Castro who first met another key figure in the Cuban Revolution, the Argentinian doctor Ernesto "Che" Guevara. They met in Mexico as Raul recruited supporters for their invasion of Cuba. The Castro brothers, Guevara, and 79 other fighters rode together on a boat that landed in eastern Cuba in 1956, where they settled into the jungle-covered mountains to start their guerrilla campaign. 6 years later, Guevara and the younger Castro would still be working together and would sign this Cuban work release document on September 30, 1962. The untranslated document has been signed by both revolutionaries in blue ink and remains in fine condition, with scattered handling wear and spots of toning. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
