Handwritten and signed letter as Quartermaster General of the New York Militia, one page, 5.5" x 8.25", September 22, 1862. Writing to a lawyer, Arthur says in full: "My dear Sir, I enclose letter to the Gov + one to the Adj. Genl. After you have read them, please seal + mail them separately." Signed at the conclusion "Yours faithfully, C.A. Arthur." Some light scattered staining and some show through from the other side, otherwise fine. Framed to an overall size of 9.75" x 11.75".
