Authentic Signed “In Utero” Promo Poster With Iconic Band Image by Anton Corbijn Capturing Nirvana at Their Peak!
The Only Signed Example We’ve Ever Encountered!
Here is an impossibly rare 1993 Nirvana ‘In Utero’-era promotional poster, beautifully signed by the full band – Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. Cobain and Grohl have signed in black felt tip pen, while Novoselic has signed in silver paint pen. By this point in his career, Novoselic had abandoned the Americanized spelling of his name, Chris, and was using the original Croatian spelling, Krist.
Geffen/DGC Records produced this oversized poster (approximately 24” x 36”) in support of Nirvana’s third and final studio album, ‘In Utero’, released September 13, 1993. The poster was “for promotional use only,” and was not available to the general public. Reportedly, an extremely small number of these posters were signed for Geffen Records executives.
Per Jeff Gold, former Warner Bros. Records Executive, “We acquired this signed poster from a former employee of Dreamworks Animation, a company co-founded by Geffen/DGC Records founder David Geffen, along with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg. The trio also founded Dreamworks Records in 1996. After Dreamworks Records closed in 2006, the offices were cleared out, and the employee was allowed to take this poster.”
The poster is framed and displays its original matting as it appeared on the walls of Dreamworks. The original frame has been upgraded to include Optium Museum Acrylic® by Tru Vue, Inc. This acrylic is used in the finest museums around the world and is virtually invisible, abrasion resistant and delivers the most stunning viewing experience possible. The framed poster measures 29.5” x 39” and has been remarkably well-reserved placing it in stunning near mint condition.
This iconic image, shot in Seattle in July 1993 by acclaimed Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn, captures Nirvana at the height of their fame. This would prove to be one of the bands most enduring images. Shortly after the photo session, Corbijn directed the band’s celebrated “Heart-Shaped Box” video, their final promotional clip. Just six months after the release of ‘In Utero’, Kurt Cobain would die tragically on April 5, 1994.
Although a number of signed Nevermind-era posters have come to market in recent years, authentic signed Nirvana In Utero promotional posters, such as this, are virtually non-existent. Indeed, this is the first signed example of this historic poster that we have encountered! This is made all the more desirable due to its stunning visual appeal and extraordinary provenance tied directly to the offices of David Geffen.
Comes with full Letters of Authenticity from music autograph authority Roger Epperson/REAL Authentication and Record Mecca.
