For Leo Durocher, his long accomplished Hall of Fame career would all start here with this historic check in 1925. Making his Major League Baseball debut on October 2nd, 1925, the Yankees would pay a pretty penny to the Hartford Baseball Club for the services of Durocher. Quickly becoming a favorite of manager Miller Huggins, the same cannot be said for one of the men who signed this check, Ed Barrow. Barrow wasn't a fan of something that is very common among today's athletes, the glitz & glamour of fame & how Durocher went about displaying it, often cited as a controversial figure for these activities & his flip flop between hated rivalries during his managerial career, going from the Dodgers to the Giants. All of this was made possible by the man that ran him out of town, Ed Barrow, & Yankee owner Jack Ruppert. This historic $5000 August 5th, 1925 check written out to the Hartford Baseball Club bears near mint or better black fountain pen signatures from Yankee brass Ed Barrow and Jake Ruppert, with the check stamped on the reverse with the all important "Final payment for release of player Durocher to the New York Club." Overall in near mint condition. Authenticated & encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
