This is an extremely rare collectible! After being shot by John Wilkes Booth the night of April 14, 1865, Lincoln was carried from the Ford Theatre with an American flag covering his body. This 1/2" x 3/8" fragment is a piece of the that historic flag, which covered Lincoln as he was carried from the theatre, across the street to the Peterson House where he died early the next morning. It comes with a piece of paper which has a copy of a memorial ribbon that reads "We Mourn Our Country's Loss" as well as a copy of a handwritten note, which reads, "The piece of torn red flag is a part of the flag which covered Linconl's body as it was carried from Ford's Theatre the night he was shot - carried across the street." It includes a Certificate of Authenticity from University Archives.
