This scarce and impressive Naval commission was signed by President John Tyler with an especially large and bold signature on February 3, 1844. In the document, Tyler appoints John Pope as a Commander in the Navy, countersigned by David Henshaw as Secretary of the Navy. Pope later served in the Civil War, seeing action at the Head of Passes and retiring with the rank of Commodore. The large white wafer & red wax Naval Department seals are intact. There is some minor staining but overall in very good condition. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
