Handwritten and signed letter as Senator of Ohio, October 30, 1880, 5" x 7.75", one page, Mentor OH letterhead. Garfield writes to Edward M. McCook--a member of the famed "Fighting McCook" family who was serving as Governor of the Colorado Territories. Garfield--three days away from the Presidential Election and certainly overwhelmed with activities--takes time out of his hectic campaign schedule to write the Governor and acknowledge a letter and cable gram received. In part: "In the great pressure of work upon me I have only time to acknowledge the receipt of your letter and thank you for your kindness." Entirely penned in Garfield's hand and signed at the conclusion, "Very Truly Yours, J. A. Garfield." Three days after penning this letter Garfield would be elected to the presidency, and sadly, less than a year later he would be assassinated by Charles Guiteau. The letter is well preserved and stands in excellent condition. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
