Walter Alston, known to most as "Smokey", signed 23 one-year contracts as manager of the Dodgers between 1954 and 1976, making the transition during that time from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. In early 1956, when the Dodgers were at the height of the popularity after their first World Series Championship in 1955, they were invited by the "Father of Japanese professional baseball", Matsutaro Shoriki, to make a trip to Japan following the regular season. The Dodgers made the goodwill tour to further international relations. Offered here is a passport and billfold collection personally owned by Smokey and used by him throughout that groundbreaking tour. The billfold contains several photos, receipts, and boarding passes, while the passport has been signed by Alston in several areas and contains all appropriate stamping. Alston's wife's passport is also included. A unique collectible for a Dodgers fan! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
