Babe Ruth was once America's most famous golfer. During the 1920s, when he restored America's faith in baseball after the infamous Black Sox cheating scandal, he reached a level of fame that completely redefined the word. In 1930, a reporter asked how a ballplayer could get paid more than the President of the United States, and Ruth responded, "I had a better year." Although Bobby Jones was golf's superstar - the best golfer by far - in Ruth's day, he was a celebrity to golf fans only - and there weren't that many of them. On the other hand, Babe Ruth was the most famous athlete in the world, so he played a big role in making golf a spectator sport in America - arguably, bigger than Jones. Today, we have tournaments like the Masters and the Phoenix Open, but in the 1930s, it was Ruth who made the game look like fun, and whose passion for golf not only generated large crowds, but motivated millions of average Americans who had never pictured themselves playing what they considered a rich man's sport. Offered here is a beautiful 8" x 10" sepia-toned photograph of Babe Ruth swinging his golf club, likely having just whacked a ball with similar fierceness to his famous slugging in baseball. The photograph has been signed in incredibly bold black steel tip pen, "To Joe Anziano, Sincerely, Babe Ruth". In overall good condition with some handling wear to the edges and corners. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
