On September 7, 1892, World Heavyweight Champion John L. Sullivan defended his title against "Gentleman" Jim Corbett at the Olympic Club in New Orleans. This was the first heavyweight championship to be decided using boxing gloves. Sullivan showed the signs of age and years of abusive drinking and overeating and could not keep up with the slicker and quicker Corbett. Offered here is possibly the finest display of related material to ever surface for the fight that started it all (with gloves) in John L. Sullivan vs. Jim Corbett. Featuring a scarce original 1892 complete ticket (PSA encapsluated), along with hand written letters from both Champion John L. Sullivan and challenger "Gentleman" Jim Corbett. Each item has been attractively framed & matted to an overall 42" x 32" display. For a boxing historian, it doesn't get much better than this! Authenticated by multiple sources including PSA, PSA/DNA & JSA for their respected items.
