On May 14, 1996, Dwight Gooden pitched a most unlikely no-hitter. After being suspended from baseball for most of the 1994 season and all of 1995 for repeated violations of the Major League's drug policy, the one-time New York Mets superstar pitcher joined the Yankees, looking for a fresh start. Unfortunately, in his first three starts of the season, he pitched to an 11.48 ERA, and was demoted to the bullpen, where he saw little opportunity to get into games. But when health issues forced David Cone off the field, the team reinserted Gooden into the rotation. It was only a few games later that Gooden took to the mound in the Bronx and did the unthinkable, holding the Seattle Mariners' potent offense to six walks and not hits. Offered here is an Official American League baseball used during that game, signed on the side panel by Gooden with the inscription "Ball used in No Hitter 5-14-96, Dwight Gooden, 2-0 Vs. Mariners". The ball shows good signs of use, and the inscription doesn't get much better than that! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
