Tommy Byrne would get the best of both worlds, joining the Yankees during the DiMaggio dynasty in the 40's, then again for Mantle's dominance in the 50's. Easily Byrne's most memorable moment was his dominance in the 1955 Fall Classic, starting two games for the Yankees with a 1.88 ERA. A mark good enough for best on the team with Whitey Ford coming in 2nd with a 2.12 impressive posting. Offered here is a game used/worn leather baseball glove by Tommy Byrne during the time period of the 55 World Series according to the family letter of provenance. Showing tremendous use and given the lack of extra gloves at the time, it's very likely this glove saw action during that historic series which would see the Dodgers win in seven. The fielder’s glove shows tremendous wear, its leather displaying many scuffs and abrasions with the surface layer worn through in some areas. The leather trim along the wrist strap and openings have cracked and some of the rawhide lacing looks to have been restored. The glove is accompanied by three Western Union telegrams each dated September 29, 1955 (Game 2 of World Series). One wishes Byrne luck and two congratulate him and his teammates after Byrne's complete-game victory. Also accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Byrne family.
