Uncommon handwritten letter as president, one page (front and back), dated March 27, 1856. In the letter, Pierce writes his brother-in-law about a $10,000 loan and sends regrets that the recipient won't be able to visit in the spring. Reads, in part, "The ten thousand dollars to which I referred was on loan...but he proposed to retain the amount for another year and I was very glad to let it stand. Jane has written to Mary today. I am extremely sorry that you & M. cannot visit us this spring - but we shall be happy to receive the girls & William on Saturday and I shall still hope for a visit from you in June." Signed off "Love to all, Yr affect Brother, Franklin Pierce". Pierce's handwriting is flourishing throughout, and he closes with his full name signature. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
