Extremely rare document signed as President, dated June 2, 1881, in which James Garfield appoints John Harries as "Agent for the Indians of the Lemhi Agency in Idaho, vice Elijah A. Stone, who has resigned". Boldly signed at the conclusion by Garfield, and countersigned by Secretary of th Interior Samuel Kirkwood. In fine condition, with several intersecting folds and some toning. This incredibly scarce document dates to Garfield's brief time in office, as he was assassinated only 6 months after becoming President. The rarity of this docuemnt cannot be overstated - the first we have ever offered! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS) with a signature grade of 9.
