This one-page letter, dated January 7, 1912 on official White House letterhead, is addressed to Colonel Henry Watterson. The letter reads, in full, "My dear Colonel Watterson: I have yours of 5th instant and shall bring what you say in behalf of Lieutenant Commander Leonard Cox to the attention of the Secretary of the Navy." Taft goes onto hand sign the letter in black ink and add several handwritten notes, including praise for the Colonel: "You are doing great work for the [unknown]. You are setting a fire under some gentlemen". Overall in fine condition, with a horizontal fold across the center and bleeding to the signature and inscription. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
