In February 1948, Eric and Pat Pratt wrote to Frank Lloyd Wright, requesting that he design a home for them. He responded in the affirmative, asking about their specific desires. The Pratts responded that they would build the house themselves, and asked that he design it to be built in stages, so they could add on as their family grew (which would prove to be quite a challenge). Upon receiving the drawings, the Pratts found that they knew almost nothing of reading the plans, or of the methods of following them to construct a building. However, eventually the so-called "mysterious drawings" began to make sense, and building commenced in 1950. Although upon Wrights visits he found numerous faults, including poorly laid blocks, the Pratts continued and moved into their home in September 1951, continuing to work through the fall of 1954. Offered here is the ORIGINAL 24" x 35" general floorplan for the concrete work of the Pratt House, signed in the lower right in fountain pen, "F.LL.W. Mch 29/49". Executed in graphite, red pencil, and black ink, the plan was likely drawn by Wright's apprentice. In fine condition, with light overall wrinkling, some tape remnants and small tears to edges. An excellent blueprint of Wright's typical Usonian form for one of his most well-known designs! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
