To this day many baseball historians would credit Lou Gehrig with the best hitting season of all time. Always overshadowed by Babe Ruth, Gehrig would remain out of the limelight as much as possible. While Ruth would sign for almost any willing fan, Gehrig would walk by the many requests just trying to move on with his day. For that reason among others, single signed Lou Gehrig baseballs are even more rare than dual signed Ruth/Gehrig balls & certainly more scarce than the Ruth single. Offered here is an ULTRA-RARE Official National League (O'Neill) baseball signed on the side panel by Gehrig in black steel tip. The baseball shows good use, although as a National League ball, was likely not used by Gehrig himself. Either way, Gehrig signature examples have always commanded a premium in the hobby due to his legendary stature and the fact he passed away prematurely in 1941 at the age of thirty-nine. Exemplars single signed on an official baseball make an already rare offering even more collectible. Overall in fine condition with even toning and scattered signs of scuffing and use. No removals to speak of! Authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA) with a full letter of authenticity.
