The first President and Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army has signed this SCARCE Continental Army discharge, dated June 9, 1783 and measuring 8" x 12", "Go. Washington". This choice Revolutionary war discharge reads in part: "These are to certify that the bearer hereof Benjamin Brayman soldier in the First Massachusetts Regiment, having faithfully served the United States six years & ten months and being inlisted for the War only, is hereby discharged from the American Army." It goes onto award Brayman the Badge of Merit for six years of faithful service. Washington has signed in the middle and the document has been countersigned by several others, including Governor Jonathan Trumbull. The document exhibits some moderate see-through from writing on verso along with some rough edges and fold lines typical to documents of the age. Housed in a beautiful 26.5" x 38” museum-quality framed display, along with two portraits and laser cut embellishments. Impressive! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
