A Beautiful Vintage Guitar Used by Sir Paul Behind The Scenes!An original Gibson J-160E circa 1966, rented by Paul McCartney from Harris Hire in Beckenham, England. Serial number 905708 (2). This acoustic guitar was rented to McCartney on February 21, 2002, by Rose Hackney Barber production company for McCartney at Dukes Island Studios, a West London-based studio complex. It was used for a rehearsal and promotional work (such as video shoots) prior to McCartney’s 2002 Driving World Tour.
While the guitar is a traditional right-handed instrument, Sir Paul often prefers vintage instruments and will have them string backwards to accommodate his playing style. This guitar remained in use by the rental company for years after McCartney's use, and has been subsequently re-stringed to a traditional right-handed position.
Accompanied by copies of the hire agreement, delivery note, and invoice papers with the J-160E bass listed along with other bits of studio gear used in the same session. Dated February 20, 2002, Rose Hackney Barber production company, naming Paul McCartney as the artist and Dukes Island Studios/Blue Stage as the delivery address, as well as a handwritten Letter of Provenance from P.J. Harris of Harris Hire.
The guitar is in good condition, with obvious and extensive signs of usage. It is housed in a sturdy hard shell case with various stickers from the rental company affixed to the outside of the case.
While more prominent guitars used by Sir Paul are untouchable at any less than six-figures, this offering provides a great opportunity to use an instrument that graced the legend's hands with excellent provenance at a much more reasonable level. And like with all instruments associated with the iconic musician, it is certain to continue to rise in value and desirability for years to come!
