Amazing handwritten and signed quote: "The only interesting autographs, are those that are discovered, and not those that we ask for, Claude Monet."

Claude Monet was the leader of the French Impressionist movement, literally giving the movement its name. Interested in painting in the open air and capturing natural light, Monet would later bring the technique to one of its most famous pinnacles with his series paintings, in which his observations of the same subject, viewed at various times of the day, were captured in numerous sequences of paintings. He was crucial in attracting his contemporaries, other such famous names as Renoir, Sisley, Manet, and Pissarro, to work alongside each other in and around Paris. Offered here is a highly desirable handwritten note in French on an off-white 6.75" x 4.5" sheet. Appropriately for our hobby, Monet has written a quote about autographs. Translates, in full, to: "The only interesting autographs, are those that are discovered, and not those that we ask for, Claude Monet." A collector's notation dates the piece to October 2, 1922. The page is in fine condition with minor handling wear and one vertical crease. Monet shows his age in his deliberate handwriting, as he was nearly blind toward the end of his life. The signature spans nearly 3.5" inches and is a superb example from the Impressionist. A unique item, with special interest for autograph collectors! Authenticated & encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
