Offered here is a partly printed tax document signed by Winston S. Churchill, measuring 7" x 9.25", Chartwell, Westerham, Ken., dated February 19, 1953. This is Churchill's return for the tax year ending on April 7, 1952. It consists of some folds, minor paper loss, and a few minor marginal tears, otherwise in good condition. Within the document, Churchill lists his income and expenses for the year, totaling £18,800, 7-3 in income and £17,688, 19-1 in "CHARGES", leaving a taxable balance of £1,111, 8-2. Needless to say, Churchill, like most of us, was no fan of taxes. In 1905 he commented that "We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." An excellent piece of memorabilia from a legendary international leader. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
