Desirable handwritten & signed off-white 6" x 9" letter dated September 8th, 1874, in which Chester A. Arthur, at the time serving as a Collector of the Port of New York in the U.S. Custom's Houses. In the letter, Arthur recommends a Mr. James Webb to the Postmaster's office, as he has no position available in the Collector's Office. Written on official Custom House Collector's Office letterhead and signed at the conclusion "C.A. Arthur". It's worth noting hand-written material from the short lived President is scarce. Overall in good condition with very light even toning, beautiful handwriting and an exceptional signature. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
