“The Harding Publishing Company / The Marion Star” business check/voucher, 8.25” x 7” and endorsed on the adjoining panel, 3.5” x 8.25,” by Warren G. Harding as "WG Harding." The main check portion is completed by and signed, “H. R. Schaffner”, as Treasurer of Harding Publishing Co. Payable to C. H. Kramer, for $240, and dated January 20, 1914. In fine condition, with expected cancellation marks. Authenticated and encapsulated, to an overall size of 9.75” x 13.25,” by PSA.

Founded as the “Daily Pebble,” the format of the small newspaper grew and became “The Marion Daily Star.” When Harding acquired the newspaper in 1884, it was struggling. Its questionable financial position improved following the marriage of Harding to Florence Kling DeWolfe, who promptly set about to straighten out the accounting and increase circulation. Although Harding's editorial department slanted toward the Republican platform, the daily paper remained somewhat neutral due to its position as the newspaper of record for Marion County, Ohio. Harding held ownership of the paper until mid-1923.
